The Dow Jones (DJIA) is down 1.08% on Tuesday as investors assess persistent U.S.-Iran tensions. Over the Labor Day weekend, the U.S. struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to Iran launching ballistic missiles at U.S. Navy warships. Iran threatened to target U.S. energy infrastructure in the Middle East if the attacks continued. Meanwhile, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains constrained. Eight vessels passed through the global oil chokepoint on Saturday and Sunday, followed by another seven on Monday, according to data analytics firm Kpler. Daily traffic remains well below the pre-war average of 120 vessels. Brent crude oil (BZ) is up 0.2% on the day, bringing its monthly gain to 10.9%. In addition, gas prices across the U.S. rose to $4.15 over the weekend, marking the highest Labor Day holiday prices on record. Higher energy prices could potentially fuel a rate hike when the Fed meets for its next interest rate decision on September 16. The odds of a 25-basis-point hike stand at 60.4%, up from 59.4% on Friday. Elsewhere, tariff jitters are back in the spotlight. At midnight, Canadian tariffs on $20 billion of U.S. goods went into effect. The duties were in response to the U.S. enacting tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian goods last month, which include wine, cement, and hockey sticks. Which Stocks are Moving the Dow Jones?
