Government Sec Gen Janushev's Driver Arrested

Government Secretary-General Igor Janushev's driver has been arrested Saturday after allegedly accepting EUR 500 as part of a EUR 1,500 bribe, in exchange for promising a Skopje resident a firefighter position. Police arrested him during the handover after the citizen reported the case. A court ordered 30 days of detention. SDSM called for an investigation into whether anyone else was involved. Janushev welcomed the police action, denied any connection to the alleged bribery and said the suspect's actions were his personal responsibility. The government also reacted, saying that the arrest demonstrated its stated zero-tolerance approach to corruption. VMRO-DPMNE rejected SDSM's accusations, saying that the bribe had no connection to Janushev and insisted that the case demonstrated the government's non-selective approach to fighting corruption. They also criticized SDSM's record in government and urged media outlets to rely on verified and official information rather than what it described as opposition-driven misinformation.
