still up? Look, I'm not going to start this letter with some poetic garbage about how 'the moon whispers secrets to the wounded soul.'That's for Instagram influencers who drink matcha at 6 a.m. This is not that. This is for us. The ghouls. The midnight lurkers. The people looking at the clock right now and thinking, 'Wow. 2:00 AM. Fascinating.' I am writing this while drinking a cup of coffee that went from 'hot' to 'lukewarm' to 'room-temperature sediment' about two hours ago. But I'm still sipping it because I am a creature of habit and also, I refuse to let the night win. I know why you're awake. You're not awake because you're productive. You're not awake because you're solving global warming. You're awake because you suddenly remembered an embarrassing thing you said in 2008, or you fell into a Wikipedia hole about the history of forks, or you just really, really like the way the world sounds when it shuts up. Daytime people? They don't get it. They think the sun is a friend. The sun is loud. The sun is demanding. The sun is like that coworker who comes into the office at 8 AM, slapping their hands together and yelling, 'Let's seize the day!' No. I do not want to seize the day. I want to negotiate a hostage release with the night. The day is for performance. The day is for wearing pants and answering emails and pretending to be a functional adult. But the night…The night is the velvet cushion for our weirdness. Right now, while the 'normal' people are dreaming about their mortgages, deadlines, and alarm clocks, we are experiencing the raw, unfiltered reality of existence. We are the guardians of the hum of the refrigerator. We are the keepers of the weird, shifting shadows on the wall. We are the only ones honest enough to admit that sometimes, 2 AM feels more like home than 2 PM ever did. And I just want to tell you you aren't doing it wrong. Society loves to pathologize us. They say we have 'bad sleep hygiene'or 'anxiety.' I say we have a premium subscription to the universe that only airs after midnight. We aren't lonely. We are just buffering in a different time zone. So, listen. I'm not a Guruji. I'm not going to tell you to put down the phone or drink some warm milk. I'm telling you to sip that cold, gritty coffee with me. Let's cheers to the bags under our eyes. Let's cheers to the existential dread that only visits when the lights go out. You are not a mistake because you don't wake up with the chickens. You are just a different breed of beautiful. You are tuned into a frequency that requires a little more darkness to hear clearly. So, don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow is for morning people. Tonight? Tonight is ours. Cheers to the chaos. I'll see you in the dark. Your partner in crime, The one currently trying to decide if it's too late to order pizza.
