The East Kalimantan Regional Police Food Task Force has strengthened monitoring of staple food prices and supplies in several traditional markets in Balikpapan City to ensure price stability and anticipate market fluctuations. "We continue to routinely monitor price movements and supply in the markets. This oversight is crucial to ensure the public receives staple foods at reasonable prices," said Police Assistant Superintendent Ricky Ricardo Sibarani, in Balikpapan on Sunday (9/6/2026). Ricky explained that the monitoring was carried out together with the Trade Agency, the Food Security Agency, and local market managers. The team visited food merchants directly to check stock, selling prices, and the smoothness of distribution channels from suppliers' areas of origin. Based on monitoring in the first week of September 2026, the Task Force noted price increases for rice and beef. This increase was driven by distribution dynamics from outside the region and fluctuations in public demand patterns. However, the overall supply of staple foods was confirmed to be secure. In contrast, other commodities such as cooking oil, sugar, and wheat flour were observed to be stable. Meanwhile, during monitoring on Friday (9/4/2026), several horticultural commodities actually showed a downward price trend.
