Ch. Shafay Reaches Canada To Promote Foreign Investment In Punjab

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Aug, 2026) Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain is visiting Canada to promote foreign investment in Punjab and brief Canadian investors about investment opportunities in the province. The Provincial Minister received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Toronto, where a reception in his honour was hosted by Pakistan Muslim League Canada, according Provincial Industries Department's spokesman here Thursday. The event was attended by Pakistan Muslim League Toronto President Ghouse Dar, Chaudhry Amir Mubarak, Hassan Iftikhar, Rashid Warraich, Amir Butt, Pakistan Muslim League Hamilton President Chaudhry Zafar, other party office-bearers and leaders, CEO Global Trade Rana Tanveer, and a large number of overseas Pakistanis. Pakistan's High Commissioner to Canada Muhammad Saleem, Consul General in Toronto Khalil Ahmed Bajwa, and other diplomats were also present. Addressing the reception, Provincial Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that Pakistanis living abroad are true ambassadors and a valuable asset of the country. Overseas Pakistanis have a key role to play in Pakistan's development and economic stability. He said, Punjab offers a conducive environment for the promotion of industrial and commercial activities and investment. The province's Special Economic Zones have world-class industrial infrastructure and special incentives for investors. Investments in Special Economic Zones are eligible for a 10-year income tax exemption, along with the facility to import machinery duty-free on a one-time basis. Inviting Canadian investors to invest in Punjab, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that the Punjab government is providing every possible facility to investors. He said there are vast opportunities to enhance trade, investment and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Canada. The Provincial Minister said overseas Pakistanis can play an important role in strengthening economic ties between the two countries. He invited Pakistanis living in Canada to give useful suggestions for promoting bilateral economic cooperation, adding that their proposals would be considered seriously. Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said, Pakistan Muslim League believes in an agenda of national development, stability and public prosperity. Party workers are valuable asset, and their suggestions are being given due importance. He said the organization of Pakistan Muslim League Canada would be further strengthened and consolidated. Provincial Minister thanked the party organization in Canada and overseas Pakistanis for their warm welcome and hospitality. During his visit to Canada, he will attend the Lifestyle Expo organized by World Trade Developers. He also met the expo organizers and reviewed matters related to the organization of the international exhibition. He will hold meetings in Toronto with Canada's Ministers for Trade and Commerce and Agriculture. He will also meet the President of the Canola Association, Canadian investors and government officials. The purpose of the visit to Canada is to promote foreign investment in Punjab, inform Canadian investors about investment opportunities in the province, and further strengthen trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Canada.
