President Mahama rewards Ampem Darkoa Ladies $10,000 despite WAFU B final defeat

President John Mahama has rewarded Ampem Darkoa Ladies with $10,000 following their domestic success and participation in the WAFU B Champions League qualifiers. The Techiman-based side received the financial support when they joined Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club and MTN FA Cup holders Nations FC for a courtesy call on President Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday. Ampem Darkoa won the women's league last season to earn the right to represent Ghana in the WAFU B qualifying tournament for the CAF Women's Champions League. They came close to securing a place in the continental competition but lost to Nigeria's Edo Queens in the WAFU B final, missing out on the ticket to the CAF Women's Champions League. Despite failing to qualify for the Champions League, President Mahama has recognised the club's domestic achievement and continental effort with the $10,000 financial package. The support forms part of a combined $60,000 presented to Ghana's three clubs preparing for or representing the country in African competitions. Medeama received $30,000, while Nations FC were given $20,000, with Ampem Darkoa receiving $10,000. President Mahama also called for greater investment in women's football, noting Ghana's stronger record in the women's game despite the disparity in financial support. The financial backing gives Ampem Darkoa further support as they prepare for the new season after their campaign to qualify for the CAF Women's Champions League ended in the WAFU B final.
