Pakistan, Hong Kong explore stronger business linkages

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan calls for greater business-to-business engagement and trade delegations, highlights Hong Kong's expertise in services sector Pakistan and Hong Kong have discussed strengthening business-to-business linkages and expanding cooperation in trade, investment and key services sectors, including finance, aviation and digital technology. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held discussions with the chairman and leading business representatives of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce during an official visit on September 13. The two sides explored opportunities to increase direct engagement between their business communities, while also discussing the potential of the Belt and Road Initiative to strengthen connectivity, mutual cooperation and transit routes. Khan called for regular interaction between leading businesses and greater exchange of trade delegations to identify new commercial opportunities. The meeting also discussed prospects for institutional collaboration between the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and major Pakistani trade bodies, including the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The commerce minister said Pakistan could benefit from Hong Kong's expertise in the services sector, particularly finance, aviation and digital technology. During the visit, Khan also met members of the Pakistani business community and diaspora at a dinner at the Pakistan Club. He highlighted Hong Kong's opportunities for Pakistani entrepreneurs and professionals and urged the diaspora to use its business networks to promote Pakistan's economic potential, attract investment and develop commercial partnerships. Khan said the government remained committed to facilitating overseas Pakistanis and strengthening their role in promoting trade, investment and broader economic cooperation between Pakistan and Hong Kong.
