Father Caught Speeding in Street Race With 2-Year-Old & 4-Year-Old in Backseat

If you're going to participate in an illegal street race, we recommend that you don't of course, but if you're going to do it anyway, at the very least leave your children at home. One father in Florida thought it would be a good idea to race against another driver, speeding down a highway at speeds over 120 miles per hour, with his 4-year-old and 2-year-old children in the backseat. If that weren't enough, the mother was in the front seat of the car and was spotted doing the countdown for the street race. The mother and other speed race driver were charged as well On September 5 at around 12:04 a.m., Florida Highway Patrol observed 27-year-old Tomas Valencia Ortega driving his Dodge Charger in a street race while his two toddlers were in the backseat, in a report by local outlet FOX 13 and 10 Tampa Bay News. The father was competing against another 27-year-old, Joshua Alan York, who was racing in his Dodge Challenger at the time. They were caught slowing down to around 50 mph before the mother stuck her arm out of the window and signaled a countdown for the race to begin. Then both vehicles accelerated up to 120 mph. racing north on Interstate 75, before state troopers flagged them down and pulled them over. That's when they spotted the two children in the backseat. Both Ortega and York were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and face charges of street racing and dangerous excessive speed. Ortega was then given an additional charge of child neglect. Meanwhile, the unnamed mother was not charged with child neglect, but still faces a charge of participating in a street race. The Department of Children and Families have been notified of the case. Both the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger have been impounded for 30 business days.
