Women's soccer suffers back-to-back losses in conference play

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team opened its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division slate Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to No. 19 Shepherd and then suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bloomsburg on Saturday. The Raiders (1-2-1, 0-2-0 PSAC East) battled the regional rival Rams (3-0-0, 2-0) under the lights at David See Field with gritty effort alongside a season-high 10 saves from redshirt senior goalkeeper Kirstin Brown. Shippensburg was outshot by the Rams 20-to-4, including a 12-to-1 deficit in shots on target, but the Raiders maintained a 5-to-1 edge in corner kicks. On Saturday, Shippensburg trailed hosts Bloomsburg (1-2-0, 1-2-0) by a single goal at halftime before surrendering a pair of tallies in the second half. Bloomsburg maintained an 8-to-1 advantage in shots on goal in the contest. The Raiders edged the opposition in corner kicks for the second straight game (5-to-2) but were unable to turn those set-piece opportunities into goals. Senior Ashley Hughes registered the Raiders' lone shot on target, and red shirt senior Kirstin Brown finished the match with five saves.
