GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On Labor Day, our country honors the hard-working men and women who punch that time clock each and every day to keep America running. It's nice when hard work pays off, and when someone takes the time to recognize the results. The nominees for 13 On Your Sidelines MVP of the Week certainly put in the hard work, and now we're celebrating their outstanding achievements on the field on Thursday and Friday nights. More in High school But first, here's why each player received a nomination this week: Brandon Holman - Zeeland West running back/defensive back Brandon Holman did it all for the Dux of Zeeland West in Friday night's 50-20 win over Midland. He rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns while also hauling in a receiving touchdown and returning an interception for another score. Griffin Leeuw - Holland Christian quarterback/defensive back Griffin Leeuw was a true project manager for Holland Christian on Thursday night, executing the blueprint perfectly in the Maroons' 33-14 win over Wayland. He threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 62 yards and another score. Corbin Motman - Coopersville running back/linebacker Corbin Motman did the heavy lifting in Coopersville's second-ever win over West Catholic on Thursday night. He had quite a workload with 32 carries that he turned into 265 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos. Collin O'Conner - East Kentwood quarterback Colin O'Conner was the picture of high-efficiency production for East Kentwood in Thursday night's 42-14 win over Byron Center. He threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for more than 55 yards. Jack Smith - Thornapple Kellogg running back/linebacker Jack Smith remembered his hard hat in Thornapple Kellogg's 49-19 win over Hamilton. He rushed for 131 yards, but even more impressively, he racked up six total touchdowns, including one coming off a punt that he blocked.
