The Chicago Bears got encouraging news following Monday's practice as running backs D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai both returned to practice ahead of Sunday's season opener against the Carolina Panthers.
According to Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, Swift and Monangai participated in a "brisk, 50-minute practice" on Monday afternoon. Wide receiver Rome Odunze was the only one absent, which isn't too encouraging ahead of Week 1.
Swift exited last Thursday's practice in severe discomfort with what ESPN's Adam Schefter reported as a cramp, so it's no surprise that he was back out there Monday after a three-day weekend. Meanwhile, Odunze also exited Thursday's practice with an apparent right leg or ankle/foot issue, per Biggs. While he tried to continue practicing, he was pulled by trainers as a precaution.
Monangai has been sidelined since Aug. 16, when he suffered a knee injury during practice. It sidelined him through the preseason, but it sounds like he has a chance to be ready in time for the season opener.
The first injury report will be released on Wednesday.
