Nationalise battery development, union urges

The public sector should take over the development of battery storage and the remaining gas generation fleet, a union has urged. In a radical new report, published Monday (7 September), the Prospect union has also called for Great British Energy (GBE) to step in to deliver nuclear and renewables projects that cannot attract private investment but the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO) deems necessary. The study by the union, which includes many energy professionals amongst its 160,000 members, says it will be 'impossible to bear down on [energy] prices without more public control over dispatchable power'.
