His last stop before Anthropic was Director of AI at Google Cloud, leading developer experience for Gemini. He's not a model architect. He's the person who understands why millions of engineers abandon a tool in the first ten minutes. He announced the move himself on 8 September, saying he'd be 'making it better for developers who use it,' alongside a short demo built with Fable and Three.js. Anthropic's own Claude Code team welcomed him publicly, and the official Three.js account congratulated him too. Anthropic has spent 2026 recruiting research heavyweights like Andrej Karpathy and John Jumper. This hire is a different signal entirely, it's an investment in whether people can actually use what those researchers build.
