Lanjar directs city's traffic management system to be made more effective

By KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed that the city's traffic management system be made more effective and organized. He said that complaints regarding traffic congestion in the city were being received on a daily basis, making practical and effective measures essential to address the situation. Presiding over meeting on the Traffic Management and Regulatory System, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that maintaining the normal flow of traffic and reducing congestion on major roads through an effective strategy were necessary to eliminate public complaints. The meeting reviewed various matters in detail, including traffic flow in the city, enforcement of traffic laws, the presence of traffic police on roads, measures to eliminate traffic congestion, and addressing the difficulties faced by citizens. During the meeting, DIG Traffic gave a detailed briefing on traffic management, measures to improve traffic flow, and initiatives being undertaken to resolve the problems faced by citizens. The Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed SPs of Traffic Zones and Section Officers to maintain a visible presence on roads and directly monitor traffic conditions. He said that in the event of traffic congestion, local police stations should also assist the traffic police so that citizens do not face unnecessary delays and difficulties. Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed strict action against over-speeding and overloading. He said that the continuous presence of traffic police must be ensured on the city's major roads, busy intersections, and locations experiencing heavy traffic pressure. He made it clear that any obstruction to the smooth flow of traffic must be removed immediately. He also directed that the e-challan system be utilized comprehensively and effectively to ensure proper enforcement of traffic laws. The Sindh Home Minister directed that legal action be taken against violations of one-way traffic rules, signal jumping, over speeding, riding motorcycles without helmets, illegal parking, and other traffic violations. He said that alternative routes must be arranged immediately in the event of traffic congestion or any emergency. Effective diversion plans must also be ensured for roads affected by ongoing development projects across the city. Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed the authorities to keep citizens informed in a timely manner about the latest traffic conditions and alternative routes. He said that modern communication channels and available resources should be utilized to provide citizens with accurate and timely information. The Sindh Home Minister also directed strict monitoring of the fitness, speed, and safety requirements of heavy transport vehicles, public service vehicles, and other commercial vehicles. He said that unsafe vehicles and those failing to meet prescribed safety standards must be prevented from operating on the roads to ensure the protection of citizens' lives and property. He directed that the effectiveness of the traffic management system be monitored on a daily basis. He said that traffic-related problems on major roads must be identified promptly and resolved without delay. The Sindh Home Minister further directed the relevant officers to regularly brief senior authorities on progress regarding traffic management measures and the resolution of related issues, ensuring that the traffic system becomes effective, organized, and convenient for citizens.
