Jaipur: An elderly woman was found murdered at her house in Rajasthan's Churu district, with jewellery she had been wearing reported missing on Monday, police said. The incident occurred near Gandhi Chowk in Sujangarh where Pukhraj Chordia, 80, was living alone. Police said that Chordia's throat had been slit and jewellery, including gold bangles she was wearing, was missing.
Police suspect robbery could be the motive behind the killing. According to family members, Chordia's two sons — Manoj and Sanjay — live in Kolkata. The incident came to light after the woman did not answer phone calls on Monday morning. Her brother Vijay Singh tried calling her but received no response.
When she did not return his repeated calls, he asked an acquaintance to check on her. Around the same time, some people campaigning for the urban local body elections reached the house. After repeated calls and ringing the doorbell went unanswered, they approached a tea seller located opposite the house.
The tea seller went to the first floor after finding the gate open and found the woman lying in a pool of blood. Police and her family members were subsequently informed. Police are investigating the case and trying to identify those involved in the killing.
