Karmelo Anthony: Austin Metcalf's Killer Seen Flashing Guns, Spewing Racist and Hateful Rants in Newly Released Documents

Karmelo Anthony had posed with guns and sent racist and violent rants in text messages before fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf, according to a trove of newly released documents. The 75-page dossier, obtained by the Daily Mail, sheds new light on Anthony's disturbing past. However, the material was never presented to jurors during his murder trial because prosecutors and his defense team had reached a "gentleman's agreement" to keep it out of the proceedings. Photos show Anthony holding a handgun in a screenshot from a video he recorded in November 2024 — just five months before he fatally stabbed Metcalf inside a tent at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. Dark Past Exposed Another photo from May 2024 shows Anthony, who was 16 at the time, posing with an AK-47-style rifle alongside three other teenagers. A third video from Jan. 4, 2025, shows Anthony pointing a gun at a residence before running away, according to the Daily Mail. It remains unclear who lived at the home. Just one week before the killing, Anthony, who is Black, allegedly sent several racist messages to his girlfriend, Valeria Perez, expressing hatred toward other Black people. "I f—king despise black bitches," he wrote, according to a screenshot of their conversation. "F—king n—ers," he added in another message. "They need to go die." In a separate exchange from June 2021, Anthony also went on a homophobic rant about gay people. He told a friend, "These f—king gay people are f—king everything up." According to the document, he also said he hated then-President Joe Biden because he's "Gay ASB [as balls]." The text messages also shed light on Anthony's alleged criminal activity and the increasingly violent behavior he displayed in the months leading up to the stabbing. In one message to Perez in October 2024, Anthony said he "might gt [go to] jail" after claiming he had broken into a neighbor's home and stolen a watch. The next month, he allegedly bragged to his girlfriend about bringing a gun and knife to school. Got His Punishment Anthony was later convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison. He appealed the conviction and sought a new trial, but a Texas judge denied his request. Collin County Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said at Anthony's appeal hearing last month that his girlfriend had confided in an assistant principal on the day of the April 2, 2025, killing. According to Wirskye, she said Anthony had been stalking her after their breakup and was obsessed with fights, guns and knives. Wirskye also said Anthony sent his ex-girlfriend a photo of the knife and told her, "I'm low key on the verge." "He was spiraling," the prosecutor added. A few hours later, Anthony fatally stabbed Metcalf under a tent at a high school track meet. Prosecutors agreed to keep the evidence out of court in exchange for defense attorneys agreeing not to bring up Metcalf's juvenile criminal history, which included graffiti containing "vile racist stuff," Wirskye said. After Anthony's appeal was denied, his family has asked supporters to raise about $250,000 to help cover the convicted killer's appeal costs following the rejection of his request for a new trial last month.
