Jeron Melton, 29, of Albany, was driving near Second Street and Oak Street when he committed multiple violations and police tried to pull him over around 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, the Albany Police Department said. Instead, Melton sped up, fled the scene, and committed more traffic violations, cops said. He was eventually stopped near Livingston Avenue and Lark Street, authorities said. Melton initially refused to step out of his vehicle, then did so but attempted to flee the scene, according to police. He was detained, and the 4-year-old child was found inside the vehicle and released to a family member, cops said. Melton was charged with child endangerment, obstructing government administration, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, fleeing police, and several traffic violations, according to authorities. He was released following his arraignment Tuesday, Sept. 8 and is due back in court Wednesday, Sept. 24, according to online court records.
