Crash knocks out power to more than 2,000 in Victoria

More than 2,000 BC Hydro customers in Victoria were without power Monday after a vehicle struck a utility pole in the city's Fairfield neighbourhood. The utility company says the collision knocked out power to the area just before 2:30 a.m. The collision happened near the intersection of Fort Street and Linden Avenue, where a dark-coloured SUV appeared to have sheered the pole near the ground. BC Hydro says crews are on site working to restore electricity to approximately 2,122 customers. The area affected by the outage includes several blocks west of Regents Place, north of Richardson Street, south of Rudlin Street and east of Vancouver Street. The power authority estimated electricity would be restored to the area around 5 p.m.
