Wexford County Council (WCC) has confirmed that the issues which caused traffic chaos across Wexford town this morning and into the afternoon have now been resolved.
Works will continue between Mill Road and the Mulgannon Roundabout (outside Cromwellsfort) from 7-10 p.m. this evening to facilitate emergency repairs to water mains. Alternate routes signposted and local access facilitated.
Two separate road closures temporarily caused serious delays in this part of town with Wexford Bus forced to cancel its scheduled service at The Faythe, Trinity St, and The Quay.
The road closure between the junction at King Street and The Folly.
On Tuesday morning, with the road between the King Street Junction and The Folly closed, a large volume of school and work traffic arrived at the Mulgannon roundabout, aiming to head towards The Faythe, only to be met with a second road closure, without prior notification.
The outcome was huge tailbacks along Distillery Road, spilling over onto Kennedy Park and out towards Killeens.
Having inspected the sites and the traffic management systems in operation, WCC's road crews confirmed they have now resolved the problems and that further delays are expected to be minimal.
