Recently-released Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle finds new home

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Dean Lowry is signing with the New York Giants practice squad. Lowry was released by the team in the summer and did not re-sign with the team's practice squad. As a result, he looked around the NFL and the Giants scooped him up. The Steelers signed Lowry in May after he was fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered during training camp in 2025. Lowry was slated to be one of the key depth pieces on the Steelers' defensive line a year ago before the injury. He was drafted by Mike McCarthy's Packers in the 2016 NFL Draft. Lowry came over to Pittsburgh after being released from the Minnesota Vikings following the 2023 season. He suffered a torn pectoral muscle that ended his 2023 season, but Lowry had multiple strong years with the Green Bay Packers. He spent the 2024 season with the Steelers as a rotational piece. Lowry played in 12 games and amassed one sack and just five tackles as a rotational pass rusher. He dealt with a calf injury that forced him to miss time in training camp last training camp, hampering his ability to get off the ground. The Steelers were unable to keep Lowry with young players such as Gabriel Rubio and Kevin Jobity Jr. standing out throughout the preseason.
