Netflix and AMC Studios are partnering on Bannerman, a new spy drama from Shane Black based on John R. Maxim's novels Netflix and AMC Studios are joining forces on a new co-production agreement, with Shane Black's Bannerman set to become the first series produced under the partnership. Based on the popular spy novels by John R. Maxim, Bannerman is being developed as a high-octane drama centred on Paul Bannerman, a highly skilled covert operative who attempts to leave the spy world behind. The series follows Bannerman as he convinces a group of deadly assassins to retire and pursue normal lives in suburban Connecticut. Their plans quickly become complicated by former enemies, dangerous habits, a suspicious government and a relentless ex-cop, forcing the group to confront one final mission. Black, known for films including Lethal Weapon, will make his television directing debut on the series. He co-wrote the first episode and will executive produce while directing the first two episodes. Craig Silverstein will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten will also executive produce, with AMC Studios serving as the lead studio. Under the agreement, Bannerman will premiere on AMC in the US and Canada before becoming available on Netflix in those territories 90 days after the season finale. Netflix and AMC will jointly release each episode in Australia, New Zealand and Spain, while Netflix will have exclusive rights in other international markets. The project has been in development for several years. AMC Studios acquired the television rights to Maxim's Bannerman books in 2023, with Black, Nicotero and Witten attached to the project. A writers' room opened in 2026. The partnership also builds on the longstanding relationship between Netflix and AMC, which expanded recently through a $500 million licensing agreement covering The Walking Dead universe. Maxim's Bannerman series consists of five novels, giving the television adaptation substantial source material for future seasons.
