Arrested for stabbing, GIM student sent to 5-day police custody

Panaji : Goa Institute of Management (GIM) student Sukanya Sabbhani who was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old student Umme Aiman on the business school's campus at Poriem in Sattari, has been remanded in five-day police custody. Valpoi police inspector Vidyesh Pilgaonkar said that police are investigating the case to find out the motive behind the attack. Valpoi police has registered the first information report (FIR) as an attempt to murder. Police said 26-year-old Sukanya is a resident of Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, while Umme is a native of Lucknow. They also said the two students stayed in different rooms in the hostel. Umme in her complaint said Sukanya allegedly entered her room at Hostel No. 2 on GIM campus late Saturday night and stabbed her with a knife on her neck while she was sleeping, which led to severe bleeding. She said Sukanya had attacked her with an intention to kill. Police said Sukanya also inflicted 'serious cut injuries' to Umme's hands and threatened to kill her.
