NDC Refutes Allegations of Diverting Aspirant Levies, Donations

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims that levies and donations collected from aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections were misappropriated, insisting all funds were properly managed through its official accounts. In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party described the allegations as 'deliberate misinformation' orchestrated by disgruntled elements to tarnish its image. 'As a new party without elected office holders, we proactively sought financial support from aspirants, stakeholders, and members of the public to sustain operations. All contributions were paid directly into the party's designated account and managed by the appropriate organs,' Director explained. He further defended NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, stressing that he neither demanded nor received money for personal use. 'All funds were receipted and accounted for in line with global best practices. The financing of political parties through membership subscriptions and contributions is universally accepted,' he said. The party emphasized that its candidate selection process was not based on selling tickets, noting that presidential and vice-presidential slots were offered free of charge. It also highlighted that voluntary contributions were essential for building a nationwide structure without access to government resources. Rejecting attempts to link Dickson with financial impropriety, the NDC described the campaign as an effort to damage his reputation and the party's growing profile. 'Our National Leader's lifestyle is anchored on integrity, honesty, and simplicity. The orchestrated falsehoods are designed to derail our progress, but we remain focused on our political objectives,' the statement added.
