Vadodara:
A contracted worker of Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GSFC) died in a carbon dioxide gas leak at the plant on Monday morning. The incident occurred in the urea plant area around 11.30am.
Police said 41-year-old Ghanshyam Gohil was rushed to hospital with another victim, Keyur Parmar. 'Prima facie, Gohil died due to inhaling the gas that had leaked from a tank,' said Ravi Prajapati, police inspector, Chhani.
According to police, 28-year-old Parmar was the first to inhale the gas and fell unconscious. Gohil, a supervisor, rushed to help him but was also affected by the gas and fell unconscious. Parmar's condition is critical. Police said have registered an accidental death and the investigation will focus on how the gas leaked and whether safety measures were followed.
Gohil is survived by his wife and two children. His family refused to accept his body and demanded a proper inquiry and adequate compensation.
