LAHORE: Rising inflation has made affordable sources of protein increasingly difficult for citizens to access, with chicken and egg prices climbing significantly above official rates in Lahore. According to the official rate list, the price of live broiler chicken has been fixed at Rs333 per kilogram. However, the same chicken is being sold in the open market for up to Rs399 per kilogram, creating a difference of Rs66 per kilogram. Similarly, the official price of broiler chicken meat has been set at Rs483 per kilogram, while consumers are paying as much as Rs550 per kilogram in the open market. This represents an increase of up to Rs67 per kilogram over the official rate. Egg Prices Also Rise The price of farm eggs has also become a concern for consumers. According to the official rate list, farm eggs are priced at Rs241 per dozen, while they are being sold for up to Rs260 per dozen in the open market. Citizens have expressed concern over the rising prices of protein-rich food items, saying that the cost of essential daily-use commodities is already putting pressure on household budgets. Consumers said the continued increase in chicken and egg prices is particularly affecting middle- and low-income families, making it increasingly difficult for them to maintain balanced and affordable diets.
