Germany: Saxony-Anhalt, Alternative für Deutschland was mainly voted by religiously unaffiliated people

According to such survey, 47% of religiously unaffiliated voters voted for AfD, a remarkably higher proportion than that of Protestants (33%) or Catholics (32%). In addition, such survey found a gender-based difference too. According to such survey, 38% of Protestant men and 37% of Catholic men voted for AfD, while the rate for Protestant women was 29% and that for Catholic women was 26%. The Christian voters who did not vote for AfD mainly voted for CDU, which dropped to 17.2%: voters from both religious confessions voted for the Christian Democratic Union, with each group providing 26% of votes. A wide divide between the two confessions is clearly apparent in the age group up to 34 years of age. While 23% of Catholics in such age group voted for AfD, the proportion rose to 39% for Protestants. CDU had no support from voters aged 34 and under: young Protestant Christians provided just 8%, while young Catholics provided even less, a mere 6% of votes; Catholics in such age group voted for SPD (19%) and the Green party (18%).
