Kanpur: Body of a 26-year-old farmer was found hanging at his home in Binaur village under Sachendi police station in Kanpur late Sunday evening after floods destroyed his paddy and bajra crops, police said.
Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kuldeep Singh (26) took about 5 bighas of farmland in Balghat for cultivation from another farmer in the village and had borrowed money for it, his younger brother Arun said.Unseasonal rain caused Noon river to flood, waterlogging the farmland and submerging the entire crop. Family members said Kuldeep had become distressed about repaying the loan after the crop was damaged.Kuldeep visited the field on Sunday afternoon and found the crop destroyed. He returned home, spoke little to anyone and went to his room.After hearing no sound from the room for a long time, his mother, Shail Kumari, went to check on him and found his body hanging from a noose. Other family members reached the room after hearing her scream and informed police on emergency number 112.Police from Sachendi police station and a forensic team inspected the scene before sending the body for post mortem. According to Sachendi station in charge Dinanath Mishra, the family stated that Kuldeep died by suicide after being distressed by the destruction of his crop. Police are investigating and further action will be based on the post-mortem report and inquiry.
