XRP trades at $1.41 as of September 7, 2026, opened the year at $1.84, and hasn't closed above $2 since its $2.03 high on January 19. To reach $2, XRP would first need to close above $1.43, which it hasn't done since August 27, then hold above the $1.70 August 22 high, then clear the $1.80s it last traded in January. The Senate votes on the CLARITY Act on September 15 and the Fed decides rates on September 16, with Polymarket pricing the bill at 18% and a hike at 60% to 65%. The XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) price trades at $1.41 as of September 7, 2026, after three choppy weeks. The coin closed at $1.00 on August 18, reached $1.70 on August 22, fell back through the low $1.30s, and climbed into the $1.40s by September 4. The round number above all of that is $2. It's just above where XRP has traded since late January, and it's below the $1.84 the coin opened the year at. So would XRP close above $2 by December 31? Maryshot / Shutterstock.com The XRP price touched a $2.03 intraday high on January 19, three weeks into the year, then fell to $1.11 by early February. It hasn't closed above $2 since. Against 2025 highs above $3, including $3.05 on October 6, 2025, $2 is a modest ask, but XRP has spent seven months well below it. XRP has had a strong month and a bad year. The coin climbed from a $1.00 close on August 18 to $1.41 on September 7, but it's still down 23% since January 1 and 50% over the past year. So a close above $2 in December would mean XRP getting back to a level it lost in January, not extending the August bounce. XRP would first need to close above $1.43, which it hasn't done since August 27, then hold above the $1.70 high from August 22, and then push through the $1.80s it last traded in January. Parilov / Shutterstock.com Part of the case for XRP reaching $2 rests on the CLARITY Act, the bill that would write XRP's status as a commodity into federal law. The Senate votes on cloture on September 15, which is the vote on whether to take up the bill, and it takes 60 votes, more than either party holds alone. Cloture doesn't pass the bill; it only opens the debate. Polymarket prices the bill being signed into law in 2026 at about 18%, down from 90% in February, and if cloture fails, the bill slips and a year-end move in XRP gets less likely. The Federal Reserve decides rates on September 16, the day after, with its upper bound at 3.75% since December 2025 and Polymarket pricing a September hike at 60% to 65% as of September 7. Strong job gains on September 4 strengthened the case for a hike, and Trump is pressuring Fed Chair Warsh for a cut. Fed Governor Waller said on September 3 he'd hold rates if inflation is improving, so a hold is possible. However, July PCE inflation ran 3.7%, and the 10-year Treasury yield reached 4.82% on September 4, 2026, its highest since January 2025. A hike would push that yield higher, and when a government bond pays close to 5%, some savers move money out of a coin that pays nothing. XRP is unlikely to close above $2 by December 31, 2026, because three levels stand between $1.41 and $2 and the coin hasn't cleared the first of them, $1.43, since August 27. The August bounce was strong, but a coin that can't close above $1.43 in two weeks has a long way to go to reach $2 in sixteen. The two events that could change that both come in the same week. If the Senate clears cloture on September 15 and the Fed holds on September 16, XRP could take $1.43 and $1.70 on the news and put the $1.80s in reach before December. If cloture fails and the Fed hikes, the bounce off the August low would probably fade, and the earliest XRP could reach $2 would be 2027.
