The equipment will help officers access case records, monitor hearings and court orders, and coordinate with government departments as Punjab moves toward paperless management of official legal cases.
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Nov, 2026) Provincial Minister for Law Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan on Thursday said the Punjab government was accelerating the digitalisation of its legal system to improve case management, ensure effective prosecution of government cases and enhance transparency and efficiency in official affairs.
He said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif envisioned modernising government institutions through technology, reducing paperwork, transitioning towards a paperless working environment and ensuring faster and more transparent coordination among departments.
He was addressing a tablet distribution ceremony at the Office of the Advocate General Punjab, where 101 tablets provided by the provincial government were distributed among Law Officers and for case-related administrative matters.
The Law Minister said the development and implementation of the Litigation Management System (LMS) by the Office of the Advocate General Punjab was an important step towards digitalising government legal affairs. The unified digital platform would facilitate the management, monitoring and prosecution of cases involving the provincial government while improving coordination with relevant departments.
Recalling a meeting held on March 5, 2026, he said the need for modern digital equipment to effectively implement the LMS had been discussed, as the existing facilities at the Advocate General's Office were outdated. In response, the government provided 101 modern tablets, including 75 for Law Officers and the remaining devices for case-related administrative work.
He said the devices would enable Law Officers to access case records, legal documents and updates during court proceedings and while working outside their offices. They would also facilitate prompt communication with government departments, reduce file movement and save time in preparing and pursuing cases.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan emphasised that timely submission of replies, para-wise comments, written statements and supporting documents in cases against government departments was essential for effective legal representation. The digital system would facilitate monitoring of hearing dates, court orders, case status and upcoming legal requirements, helping minimise delays and safeguard government interests.
He stressed that effective prosecution required thorough preparation, professional expertise and responsible handling of cases, urging Law Officers to make full use of modern technology and available facilities in the public interest.
Appreciating the efforts of Advocate General Punjab Barrister Zafarullah Khan, the Law Department and their teams, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to equipping public institutions with modern technology and strengthening their institutional capacity. He expressed confidence that the provision of tablets and effective utilisation of the LMS would significantly modernise Punjab's legal system.
Addressing the ceremony, Advocate General Punjab Barrister Zafarullah Khan said the computerisation of judicial and legal affairs in Punjab had progressed through several stages. With the support of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), the transition to a paperless system would be completed soon.
Secretary Law Bilal Asif Lodhi said the Punjab Law Department had introduced several reforms to strengthen the monitoring and digital management of government cases. He said the establishment of the Directorate of Monitoring and Evaluation (DOME) in January 2025 had further streamlined institutional oversight and digital reforms.
He added that the AI-Based Litigation Management and Training System had been launched in October 2025 in collaboration with PITB. Under the initiative, representatives of 42 government departments, District Attorneys and Law Officers across Punjab had received training to improve case monitoring, legal management and professional capacity.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Law Minister distributed tablets among Law Officers and congratulated the Advocate General Punjab and his team on the initiative.
