Cards, letters remain treasured reminders during declutterin...

Okay, the decluttering season has arrived. I know we've been here before, as I sort of remember writing about this rite of passage at least once. It's a good season to be sorting and pitching, as there just isn't a lot to do inside otherwise. The heat is so oppressive. I've come to the conclusion that there will definitely be more pitching than sorting. About two years ago, I dumped our 'junk drawer' into a crate, with the vision of using a little storage thingie with all the tiny little drawers. Didn't happen and won't. Remember, it was I who penned the famous blurb entitled 'Life's Too Short to Fold Your Underwear'. I am predicting that perhaps 10 to 15 percent of my filled to the brim crates will survive annihilation. I made an offhand comment during lunch at the Senior Center the other day, that I was going to throw away my cookbooks. After that comment, I won't have to, as they've found several new homes. Wait until they cast their eyes upon the motherlode of cookbooks that reside in a crate yet to be discovered! Of course, I'll save Mom's decades-old Betty Crocker cookbook given to her by my Grandma Weeks. I've already rehomed my embroidery stash complete with cute bag, stamped pillowcases, and counted cross stitch patterns. And oh, the cards! They are housed in such colorful flowery boxes; they probably won't take a hit. Various life markers that seemed important at the time won't be important to anyone else. There are no doubt some somber reminders tucked in those cards and letters. When I was deep in depression, I think my Mom made sure I received a card in the mail every day, with encouraging words. There's a Mother's Day card sent to Mom in Danny's handwriting when I was 'lost' for awhile. Those are holy epistles to me, reminding me Who has been with us all along our journey, so far.
