OkraFest '26 This Weekend at Lick Run Farms in Roanoke!

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — OkraFest is back! This will be the fifth year for the annual celebration of harvest and urban farming at Lick Run Farms in northwest Roanoke. Okra is one of the most successful crops at the farm. There will be plenty of information and exhibits about urban farming and okra at the event, as well as live entertainment, art, music, and okra cooking demonstrations. In addition, the festival will also mark the grand opening of the farm's Crop Shop. 'I think opening a shop here at the farm represents us listening to what our neighbors are telling us over the last five years since we've been farming here,' said Cam Terry of Lick Run Farms and Garden Variety Harvests. 'We keep being told we want to buy your food at the farm. We want it to be more convenient. We want access to healthy, fresh foods in walking distance of our homes. And so this is us trying to deliver on that. You know, so the store will be stocked with our vegetables and then, you know, produce and meats and cheeses and dairy, dry goods from throughout the region.'
