7,000 cops to ensure security on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal

LAHORE - Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousaf, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran and Punjab Ulema Board Chairman Dr Mufti Intikhab Ahmad Noori on Friday chaired a meeting of the Divisional Peace Committee to review arrangements for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) in Lahore Division. Deputy commissioners of all four districts of Lahore Division, Ulema, members of peace committees and officers of various administrative departments attended the meeting. The participants were briefed on security, traffic, rescue and other arrangements for the celebrations. The briefing said that 7,000 Lahore Police personnel would be deployed on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, while 3,000 Civil Defence volunteers would perform security duties along the procession routes. Rescue 1122 ambulances and motorcycles would remain alert and on standby along the routes, while traffic and parking plans had also been finalised. Commissioner Nauman Yousaf said that the administration and security agencies had prepared a joint plan for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) arrangements. He said 71 major processions would be held in Lahore, including 19 on 11th Rabi-ul-Awwal and 52 on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal. He said the Traffic Police, Rescue 1122 and allied departments had completed preparations, adding that patchwork on all procession routes and restoration of streetlights were being ensured. The commissioner directed the concerned departments to strictly implement all safety measures during the processions and complete all arrangements within the stipulated time. He said all suggestions aimed at improving arrangements were welcomed and assured that the administration would provide all possible resources for security and other arrangements. Dr Mufti Intikhab said that a message of peace, harmony, love and devotion to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was being conveyed to the public. He said there was strong coordination between Ulema and the administration in accordance with the directions of the Punjab government. DIG Operations Faisal said that strict action would be taken against miscreants, provocative elements and those involved in unethical activities. He stressed that all necessary security measures would be implemented to ensure peaceful observance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
