Nagpur:
Koradi police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a 17-year-old girl was found to be around five months pregnant during a medical examination and subsequently alleged that two unidentified motorcycle-borne men had raped her after rendering her unconscious.
However, investigators suspect the minor may have fabricated parts of her account to shield her boyfriend, whose identity has now surfaced and who is under police scrutiny.
According to the complaint, the girl, who lives in a rented accommodation in Koradi and attends tuition classes, was walking near her residence after lunch when two motorcycle-borne men approached her. The girl alleged that both men had covered their faces with cloth handkerchiefs and that one of them pressed a cloth sprinkled with some chemical over her face, causing her to lose consciousness.
In her statement, the girl claimed the duo sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious before fleeing the spot.
The girl stated that she realised what had happened after regaining consciousness, but did not disclose the incident to her family due to fear.
The matter came to light months later during a visit to her native village in Parseoni for
Raksha Bandhan
. After she complained of stomach pain, family members took her to a hospital in Nagpur, where medical examinations reportedly revealed she was around five months pregnant.
Based on her statement, Koradi police have registered a case. During the course of the investigation, however, officers began questioning the version of events narrated by the girl and are examining the role of a youth with whom she was allegedly in contact.
'The survivor allegedly tried to mislead the police to hide her relationship with a young man. His identity has surfaced during the investigation, though no arrest has been made so far,' said senior inspector Ganesh Dhumal of Koradi police station.
Police said the accused named in the complaint remain unidentified and no arrests have been made. Investigators are verifying the survivor's claims and examining all possible angles to establish the facts of the case. Further investigation is underway.
