FREEDOM AND FUN UNITE AT THIS WEEK'S CONCORDIA FALL FESTIVAL

Freedom and fun will unite at this year's Concordia Fall Festival, which begins Tuesday, Sept. 8 and goes through Saturday. Tuesday's festivities include the princess and queen contests at Concordia High School. Board member Kevin Meyer says the opening ceremonies Wednesday at 6 p.m. will feature a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces and a veteran serving as the keynote speaker. . Indoor exhibits will open Thursday at the Concordia Community Center, along with the Chalk The Walk art contest, carnival rides on the midway, and Main Stage Music Night. Meyer says a full day of events Saturday include a 5K race, car show, baby show, pedal tractor pull, and ping pong drop. A parade will follow at 6:30 p.m., with a new contest to mark America's 250th birthday. A fireworks show is planned for 9:45 p.m. that night, followed by a drawing for prizes including a hunting blind and meat packages.
