President John Mahama has announced a GH¢342,000 (US$30,000) financial package for Medeama SC to support their CAF Champions League campaign. Medeama earned the support after winning the Ghana Premier League title last season and qualifying to represent the country in Africa's premier club competition. The Tarkwa-based side are currently facing TP Mazembe in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. Medeama suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to the DR Congo champions in the first leg at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday. Despite the setback, Medeama remain confident of overturning the deficit when the two sides meet in the return leg in Lubumbashi. The Ghanaian champions will need to win in DR Congo to keep their hopes of progressing to the next round alive. The financial support was announced when Medeama, MTN FA Cup holders Nations FC and Women's Premier League champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies paid a courtesy call on President Mahama ahead of their continental campaigns. The government support is intended to assist the three clubs as they represent Ghana in continental competitions. Medeama will now turn their attention to the second leg against TP Mazembe as they look to overturn the 1-0 deficit and continue their CAF Champions League campaign.
