KARACHI The comedy theatre play 'Bhaley' was staged on the third day of the ongoing 'Wes-Dhaari Sindhi Theatre Festival 2026' at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, which was attended by President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah along with a large number of theatre enthusiasts. The audience in the hall appreciated the outstanding performances of the artists and expressed their appreciation with enthusiastic applause. 'Bhaley' was written by Sohrab Soomro and directed by Ali Gul Mallah. Ali Gul Mallah, Amjad Gul, Laiba, Abdullah Mallah and Sher Dil delivered impressive performances in the play. Speaking on the occasion, President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah said that Sindhi and Urdu theatre are an important part of our cultural identity, and there is a need to provide equal opportunities to theatre in both languages and promote them further. He said that Sindhi theatre reflects the culture, traditions and social life of our land, and it is our responsibility to pass this heritage on to the younger generation. He added that Urdu theatre has always beautifully portrayed social issues, human emotions and our cultural values, and it also needs to be continuously promoted. 'Our objective is not merely to stage theatre productions but also to provide young artists with a platform where they can develop and polish their talents,' he said. The play 'Bhaley' revolved around a retired officer who insists on having his way in every matter due to his stubborn nature. Taking advantage of his habit, people manipulate situations by making contradictory statements to get their work done. Whenever someone tells him something directly, he reacts in the opposite manner, while he often takes an opposite statement literally and acts upon it. The story takes an interesting turn when the retired officer insists on marrying his daughter to a servant. Initially, the servant also refuses to marry his daughter, but the officer remains determined. Later, the daughter returns after marrying a college fellow of her choice, making the retired officer realise his stubbornness and the consequences of his attitude. The play concluded with the message that parents should not impose their will on their children but should respect their wishes, happiness and future.
