Both suspect and officer crash following North Charleston chase Saturday night

Aug. 25, 2026. (WCIV) NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Both a suspect and a North Charleston Police officer were involved in a crash following a chase on Saturday night, a new report states. At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Sept. 5, a North Charleston Police officer was attempting to exit I-26 west to Mall Drive when a suspect, operating a blue Dodge Charger, unlawfully passed them. The officer reports that the suspect vehicle nearly struck them while travelling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect in the area of Mall Drive and City Hall Lane. The suspect however reportedly failed to stop for blue lights and sirens and instead accelerated onto Lacross Road. The suspect then proceeded to lose control of their vehicle and crash into a fence on the side of the road. The officer also rounded the bend in the road and left the roadway, crashing his police cruiser, the report states. Both the suspect driver, who was later identified as Dyanell Cromwell, and the passenger where advised to exit their vehicle at gun point and were detained without further incident.
