After nearly three decades, the Practical Magic sequel, aka Practical Magic 2 is practically here. And that means this is the perfect time to watch the first Practical Magic movie on streaming, before you go to see the new one in theaters, which opens on Friday.
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Griffin Dunne, with a screenplay written by Robin Swicord, Akiva Goldsman, and Adam Brooks, the 1998 Practical Magic movie was based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman. The movie told the story of two sisters, Sally and Gillian (played by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman), who are descended from a line of witches and burdened with a deadly family curse. When the curse finally comes from them via Gillian's abusive boyfriend (Goran Visnjic), they have to learn to harness the true power of their magic to save themselves.
Though the movie was not well-liked by critics at the time, over the past 28 years, Practical Magic has become a beloved cult classic, and a staple watch for spooky season. The new film will once again feature Bullock and Kidman as the Owens sisters, meaning you'll want to brush up on your Practical Magic lore. Lucky for you, it's easy to watch the first Practical Magic movie on streaming.
