Midday Interview: National Child Passenger Safety Week

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Emerson Lundy, Southwest Georgia law enforcement liaison with the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety, joined WRBL to discuss National Child Passenger Safety Week. The national observance occurs annually during the third week of September. This year, National Child Passenger Safety Week will be from Sunday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Sept. 26. Officials said the goal of the national campaign is to encourage families and caregivers to get their child's safety seat checked to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. The Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety will be having its annual 'CPS Caravan,' where Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) travel to different counties, including Muscogee County, in the state that week and host free car seat checks. CPSTs provide demonstrations on how to properly secure a child in a child safety seat with the use of a doll. During these car checks, officials aim to educate parents and caregivers on how to install a child safety seat properly and to inspect the seat to ensure it meets federal code.
