Governance at its foundation is about making the best decisions you can with the information available at the time and communicating those decisions with clarity and transparency.'
— Amina Deiab, Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Insurance Council
WILLOW LAKE MéTIS NATION, AB, CANADA, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Willow Lake Métis Group (WLMG) has announced the appointment of Amina Deiab, Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Insurance Council, to its Board of Directors.
Deiab currently leads the Alberta Insurance Council and previously served as CEO of the Safety Codes Council, where she oversaw construction codes across the province. Before moving into regulation, she held senior roles with the Government of Alberta focused on economic development in the energy sector, and built an earlier career in business development, including running her own construction business.
That regulatory path has been shaped by a consistent focus on governance. Deiab spent a year consulting with boards and organizations on the subject before joining the Alberta Insurance Council, work she says informs how she approaches the role today.
'Governance at its foundation is about making the best decisions you can with the information available at the time and communicating those decisions with clarity and transparency,' said Deiab. 'What I've seen with the leadership at WLMG is a real evolution toward good governance. It's about sharing knowledge and building trust with the people you work alongside and those we serve.'
Deiab pointed to WLMG's structure, one where revenue from commercial partnerships flows back into community initiatives, as a key factor in her decision
to join the board. It's a model she has seen work before, having spent parts of her career adjacent to insurance across energy, construction, and real estate, alongside earlier work with First Nations and Indigenous communities in northern Alberta.
Andy Harnett, CEO of Willow Lake Métis Group, welcomed the appointment.
'Amina's background in governance and regulation is exactly the kind of expertise we want at the table as WLMG continues to grow. Her experience across government, industry, and community will help guide the organization through its next phase.'
As WLMG's portfolio of industry partnerships continues to expand across northern Alberta's energy, construction, and infrastructure sectors, Deiab noted that strong governance and communication will be critical to the organization's growth.
'Communicating out, what we're doing right now and what the vision is going forward, that's critical,' she said. 'Everybody at the table has a different
perspective, and to be a sustainable, successful business you have to take the time to listen to those perspectives.'
