Train Strikes Abandoned Pickup in Grant County

A freight train struck an empty pickup left on railroad tracks between Barrett and Hoffman early Sunday morning. Grant County deputies responded around 1:15 A-M. The damaged truck was found approximately two-thirds of a mile from the crossing. A passenger told authorities that they and the driver became separated after attempting to move the truck from the tracks. Deputies used drones, a police dog and cellphone-location information during an extended search. The missing driver was eventually located. Authorities have not released information about the driver's condition.
