WASHINGTON (WABI) - Senator Angus King is co-sponsoring a bill to protect Maine fisheries and improve the accuracy of fish stock counts. The legislation would help the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration conduct more cost-effective fish counts. Current fish stock surveys have gaps in coverage due to rising operational costs and a limited number of vessels, according to King. This bill would introduce biomolecular tools, like environmental DNA, to help track fish stocks in remote and hazardous areas.
