Father of Fort Hood soldier seeks answers about the death of his son

Fort Hood soldier Pfc. Leroy Stroud Jr, died sometime in the overnight hours between Aug. 13 and Aug. 14, according to his father, Leroy Stroud Sr., who wants to know more about what happened surrounding his son's death and why. In his grief and confusion about the circumstances surrounding his son's death, Stroud said he reached out to Army officials asking for information about that day. Stroud also reached out to the Herald to ask for help in seeking answers. Stroud said in a Facebook post: 'Instead of immediately securing emergency medical care for a soldier in acute crisis, his commanding officer engaged in a prolonged back-and-forth dispute with him. Sick, suffering, and denied medical intervention, my son stormed off — and not a single leader went after him to check on his welfare or provide aid.' Stroud said his son 'was arguing with someone concerning his health conditions ... I've been told my son was sweating profusely, throwing up and appeared to be feverish.' When asked how he knew this, Stroud said he has been contacted by his son's fellow soldiers and their families with a few details about that night. Stroud, who lives in North Carolina, said that some of those people were in similar circumstances, The father said there should have been someone in authority who physically checked on his son. 'I cannot bring my son back,' Stroud wrote in an email to KDH News. 'But I can ask questions...(and) demand accountability.' Stroud is seeking answers through his son's chain of command about the details in the hours when he was last seen by someone. He said someone should have gone to his room after he stormed off, after he missed roll call and after he didn't answer the phone. The Herald reached out to officials at Fort Hood Tuesday with questions about this issue. They said they would issue a statement on Tuesday. '...I can make sure that PFC Leroy Stroud Jr.'s story is not forgotten.' Stroud wrote.
