Gurgaon:
A five-year-old girl was crushed to death by a truck after she fell from an autorickshaw near Rajesh Pilot Chowk in Sector 62 on Sunday evening. The truck driver stopped a short distance away before fleeing, police said.
The deceased, Priyal, lived with her family in Mahavir Enclave Part-2 in West Delhi. Her mother, Ragini Mishra, told police that she was travelling with Priyal and her sister in an autorickshaw from Sector 56 to Worldmark Mall in Sector 65.
According to the FIR registered at Sector 65 police station, the family reached Rajesh Pilot Chowk around 4.46pm when Priyal suddenly fell from the autorickshaw. A red truck approaching the spot at high speed ran over her, the complaint stated.
Ragini and her family members, with help from passers-by, rushed Priyal to Motherhood Hospital in Sector 57, where doctors declared her dead. Her body was later sent to the government hospital in Sector 10 for postmortem.
A police officer said the family had come to Gurgaon to celebrate Priyal's birthday.
Police received information about the accident around 10.05pm and sent an ASI and a constable to the hospital.
Officers later visited the accident spot and spoke to the family members.
A case was registered on Monday under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the truck driver.
Police said they were examining the circumstances of the accident and working to identify and trace the driver.
