Prince Harry's candid comments about leaving the Royal Family have resurfaced. Speaking to Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV+'s The Me You Can't See in 2021, Harry reflected on his mental health journey and the decision to step away from the institution in which he had spent most of his life. 'I'd like to think we can speak truth in the most compassionate kind way possible to leave an opening for reconciliation and healing,' he said. Asked whether he had any regrets, Harry replied: 'Do I have any regrets? No! This is where I should have been four years ago.' At the time, Harry was speaking about reaching a point where he could openly confront his mental health struggles and seek therapy. Yet the comment has taken on another meaning as his relationship with the Royal Family continues to evolve. Four years before the documentary aired, Harry was still a working royal and had not yet married Meghan Markle. Since then, his life has taken a different direction. Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, moved to the United States and went on to discuss their experiences inside the monarchy through their Oprah interview, Netflix series and his memoir Spare. The question now is whether the door he once closed could eventually be opened again. Harry has repeatedly spoken about reconciliation with his family, particularly his father, King Charles. A full restoration to his former role appears complicated after years of public criticism and the couple's decision to build a separate life in the US. There is also the unresolved question of what role Harry and Meghan could realistically have within the Royal Family if they were ever welcomed back. The possibility of a return would be particularly striking given Harry's own words from 2021.
