Hisar municipal workers adopt ‘Gandhigiri' on 34th day of strike

A striking woman sanitation worker urges a contract worker not to carry out cleaning duties Hisar : Striking municipal corporation workers in Hisar adopted a peaceful 'Gandhigiri' approach on Tuesday as their indefinite protest entered its 34th day, urging contract sanitation workers with folded hands not to clean Rajguru Market. The peaceful appeal turned tense when women police personnel attempted to clear the protesters, resulting in an altercation and the subsequent detention of protesters who were hauled away in a bus. The confrontation followed a day after police detained roughly 25 striking workers for disrupting a similar sanitation drive by snatching brooms, though those individuals were later released. To counter the 34-day strike, the civic administration intensified disciplinary action on the 33rd day by dismissing seven employees, including municipal employees' union Hisar unit president Surender alias Bholu, and issuing show-cause notices to three others. Meanwhile, municipal authorities resumed essential sanitation services using contract workers operating under police protection. Officials deployed 24 vehicles to collect garbage across multiple zones and cleared key commercial hubs like Rajguru Market, Teliyan Pul, Valmiki Chowk, and Laxmi Market.
