Patrick Clancy's Attorney Slams ‘Vile' Claims He Was Involved in His Kids' Deaths: ‘Enough Is Enough'

Patrick Clancy's attorney is pushing back against a wave of online accusations that surfaced around the closely watched case — saying his client has faced damaging claims even as his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy's murder trial ended without a verdict. Just three days after a judge declared a mistrial, Patrick's legal team said it was time to address what it described as false and increasingly harmful speculation about his role in the case. Howard Cooper, an attorney who represents Patrick, 38, issued a detailed statement to CBS Boston on Tuesday, September 8, saying his client's family has faced an escalating wave of online accusations. Despite being the trial's first witness and taking the stand in July when proceedings began in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Patrick has been the target of personal attacks, his attorney alleges. Cooper didn't hold back in his statement on Patrick's behalf. "Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign," Cooper said. "This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims." Cooper said the fallout has only intensified since the mistrial. "This campaign, now fueled by insatiable media coverage, remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real-life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life," he said. "Patrick has no choice but to address this situation, with the clear goal of stopping injurious behavior, creating accountability for lies that are self-serving to the perpetrators, and being able to return his attention to what matters: preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges." Cooper added that law enforcement has been notified. The statement ended with a blunt message, "enough is enough." Patrick, who has since rebuilt his life through faith, charity work and long-distance running, married Dr. Rachel Danis in April 2026 following his divorce from Lindsay. Despite the tragedy and grief, he has publicly shown support for his ex-wife and forgiven her in a statement shared via the family's GoFundMe in January 2023. Patrick wrote: "I want to share some thoughts about Lindsay. She's recently been portrayed largely by people who have never met her and never knew who the real Lindsay was. Our marriage was wonderful and diametrically grew stronger as her condition rapidly worsened. I took as much pride in being her husband as I did in being a father and felt persistently lucky to have her in my life." He also opened up about how he really feels toward Lindsay despite the circumstances in a 2024 interview with The New Yorker. "I wasn't married to a monster, I was married to someone who got sick," he said. In 2024, he and his sisters, Erin Donahue and Laura Sullivan, founded the Heard Foundation in memory of his three kids, Cora, Dawson and Callan, focused on perinatal mental health care. Lindsay, 36, pleaded not guilty to three murder charges and pursued a defense based on lack of criminal responsibility. Her attorneys argued that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Friday, September 4, after jurors said they could not reach a unanimous verdict following more than a week of deliberations. Patrick's attorney, David Meier, released a statement on the day of the mistrial, sharing how the prospect of another trial would be "extraordinarily painful" for Patrick and his family. "The loss of Patrick's children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be closure," the statement obtained by WCVB read. "The prospect of reliving this tragedy through another trial is extraordinarily painful for Patrick, for his family, and for all of us."
