Alan Cumming's Latest Emmy Win Proves One Thing

It was a hugely successful weekend for Alan Cumming. The host of The Traitors was recently named Outstanding Host for a Reality Program. It's the third straight year he's received that honor at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The Traitors stole the spotlight for reality shows during the two-night awards show. They won all six awards they were nominated for, including Outstanding Directing. The 61-year-old Scottish actor only began hosting the reality whodunit program back in 2023. Quickly, the Tony Award winner has helped that show become a smashing success. He is also proving incredibly versatile across many areas of performance. The 61-year-old has done a masterful job curating The Traitors, blending mischief with authority in an eccentric delivery. He's been able to blend acting and presenting uniquely; that, to his credit, doesn't sound overhyped or over the top. Add to those his fearless wardrobe choices, which always seem to pop out, and you get a host who knows how to captivate an audience and keep everyone on their toes. His balance between genuine humor and icy facades always seems to keep players on the edge. That balance builds the suspense necessary for television. For Alan to achieve what he has as a reality TV host is remarkable when you look at some of the reality veterans who've hosted their respective shows for decades. Over the weekend, Alan defeated Jeff Probst, RuPaul Charles, Kirsten Kish and Ariana Madix. All of them have been familiar faces for reality show audiences for years, and each has been instrumental in making their respective shows a success. Cumming has not been at it as long as some, but he at least deserves to be in the conversation as one of the best reality TV hosts today. Alan has a long way to go when it comes to beating RuPaul's 14 Primetime Emmy Awards, all of which are Creative Arts Emmys. At the same time, we must put him in the mix as one of the best and most captivating of the bunch. His latest hosting accolade occurred just a few months after Alan had taken home the award for Best Show Host at the Critics' Choice Real TV Awards in June. He beat out RuPaul among others to take that honor. Alan's made just as much of an impact, if not more, on his show as other hosting vets. As such, he is for my money one the hosting greats on reality TV right now. Alan is preparing to host a new edition of The Traitors later this month.
