Noida: Police recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who drowned in the Hindon river on Saturday while attempting to tie a rope across the waterway. The search is still on for his friend, who was also swept away.
Around 3.30pm on Saturday, Saurav and Shiv (19) were at the riverbank near Yusufpur Chak village in the Bisrakh area. Saurav was allegedly attempting to tie a rope used to guide boats, dragging it through the water from one end to another, when the currents swept him away. Shiv allegedly dove in to rescue him but was also swept away.
Locals informed emergency services, and a large-scale search operation was launched. Personnel from multiple agencies were deployed to locate the missing youths. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (
NDRF
), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (UP PAC) and local firefighters have been conducting searches along the river.
Around 5am on Monday, Saurav's body was found near Kulesra along the Hindon, around 8km downstream from the spot where the two went missing on Saturday afternoon, said Bisrakh police station SHO

Rescue teams have intensified efforts to trace Shiv, with searches being conducted downstream of the river, where the current is likely to have carried the youth. As of Monday evening, the search operations were still ongoing.
