Two Days Training Held To Raise Awareness Among Media, Teachers, Social Workers On Child Protection

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Sep, 2026) A two-day child protection training for frontline workers was organized by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation Pakistan to raise awareness among media representatives, school teachers, officials from relevant government institutions, and social workers about child protection, violence, exploitation, and the best interests of the child. The training program was held in collaboration with the Child Protection and Welfare Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Participants received detailed briefings on the Child Protection Act 2010, establishment of the Commission, its operational procedures, scope of work, and case management protocols. Training on various aspects of child protection was provided by Dr. Akhtar Munir, Child Protection Officer, Dr. Nayab Ali and Haris Ahmed, Social Case Workers from the Child Protection Unit and Saeed-ud-Din, Protection Officer from Helvetas. The sessions emphasized that timely identification, proper guidance, and effective reporting of cases to relevant institutions are essential to safeguard children from violence, abuse, exploitation, child labor, and other risks. Participants were also apprised of the principles regarding confidentiality, the best interests of the child, and appropriate case management in sensitive cases involving children. A short drama was also presented during the training to demonstrate how the Child Protection Helpline 1121 can be utilized to respond to cases involving children who have experienced any form of violence and are in need of help and justice. Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation Pakistan is implementing a two-year project focused on child protection. Key activities include establishing and training community-level child protection committees, enrolling children in schools, providing vocational training, and assisting in obtaining birth certificates. The project also includes measures to provide livelihood opportunities for the parents of children engaged in child labor, Its aim is to improve the families' economic conditions, thereby enabling children to leave the workforce and transition toward education and a safe environment. A group of frontline volunteers supports the project's effective implementation by identifying issues and protection risks faced by children in the community and referring cases to relevant institutions.
